How to Read a Paper

Steps:

  1. Read the paper title, authors name, affiliations - 15 seconds
  2. Read the abstract (2 times) - 4 x 2 = 8 mins
  3. Read the introduction, Conclusion - 20 - 30 mins
    1. Intro is about main problem, background, contribution
    2. Conclusion is about what authors did and what can be done
    3. Take Notes
  4. Read the main paper. - 2 - few hours
    1. Background / Related work
    2. Model architecture
    3. At last, give good focus on Results
    4. Look at results with a skeptical mind and prove that the claims made in intro and conclusion are right
    5. Take notes
  5. Write the summary: (use Paper Template) - max 1 hour
    1. A good summary of the paper, which gives total idea of the paper
    2. 3+ strong points
    3. 1+ deficiencies
    4. 3+ personal comments / new ideas
